History

The Cairn Terrier was originally considered one of the Skye Terriers because he came from the Highlands of Scotland and the Isle of Skye. Around 1900 they began to breed the Cairn separately from the Scottish and West Highland White Terrier. They were known to hunt foxes and badgers and would corner them into their rock den known as a "cairn".

Double coated, harsh outer coat that is weather resistant. Any color (excluding white) and can have dark ears, tail and muzzle. Some common colors are cream, red, sandy, brindle or gray.

Other Facts

One of the most famous Cairn Terriers was Toto from the Wizard of Oz. Toto's real name was Terry. They have the instinct to dig and chase little animals. Cairn's shed very little, but should be groomed regularly. Little Ricky from "I Love Lucy" had a Cairn Terrier that he named Fred.
