History

Labrador Retrievers are originally from Newfoundland and worked with fishermen. Their descendents were also called the St. John's Water Dog.

Appearance

Strong, medium to large sized, athletic, weather resistent short coat, "otter" tail, a face with character and friendly eyes, well balanced, webbed paws for swimming.

Color and Coat

The labrador retriever comes in yellow, black and chocolate colors and should be solid. They are double coated and shed seasonally.

Other Facts

Labrador Retrievers make excellent guide dogs, search and rescue, and law enforcement helpers. Labradors are usually easygoing with strangers and might not make a good guard dog. They are considered to be one of the most popular breeds in the world and are popular in the USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Best-selling book Marley & Me by John Grogan features a Labrador named Marley.

We have a black lab named Lucie and she is such a sweet girl - although almost 10, she still gets frantically excited when we take her outside to play with her frisbees.
