History

The Collie became famous in the 1860s when Queen Victoria found them in the Scottish Highlands and they became her fashion accessory. They have been used as herding dogs in Scotland and England for hudreds of years.

Appearance

Strong, medium to large sized, long wedge shaped head, alert expression, muscular, moderately long tail

Color and Coat

Double coated with a straight harsh outer coat. There are four colors recognized by the AKC - Sable and White, Tri Color, Blue Merle, and White.

Other Facts

One of the most famous Collies, Lassie, was owned by Rudd Weatherwax and starred in books, movies and TV show. They should be walked and groomed on a regular basis. Collies are often used in agility, tracking and herding competitions. Reveille is the name of the Collie mascot of Texas A&M University.
