The Basset Hound was said to have originated in France to hunt small animals. They are said to be a mix between a Bloodhound and Artesien Normand. They became were kept by royalty and Queen Alexandra was one famous owner. They were brought to the United States as a gift to George Washington by Marquis de Lafayette.

Little grooming is required to keep a Basset Hound. They have an amazing sense of smell and will often track scents, so they should be kept leashed if not in a fenced area. The Basset Hound was bred for hunting and make great companions. Some famous Basset hounds were Droopy, Elvis Presley's "Hound Dog", and many others from movies, tv and animated shows.
