Beauceron


Other Names

Berger de Beauce, Bas Rouge, Beauce Shepherd

History

The Beauceron dates back to the 16th century from the Renaissance where they were used to guard flocks and herds in Rozier. There were two types of sheep dog which Pierre Megnin called the Berger de Brie (Briard) with long coat, and the Berger de Beauce (Beauceron) with a short coat.

Appearance

A medium-sized sheep dog, well balanced, solid, muscular but not bulky

Color and Coat

Double coated with approximately 1.5 inch coarse outer-coat. The colors are black and tan and can have tan or red markings.

Other Facts

Beauceron's can be easily trained and love to perform a task, but can also be independent. The Beauceron was one of the breeds used to create the Doberman Pinscher.
