History

Beagles are a breed of hound and have been loosly traced back thousands of years. Beagle was a term used for smaller hounds hundreds of years ago. They became popular in England and the United Kingdom, the first pack was formed in Essex. Beagles were brought to the United States some time before 1840 and were used for hunting. They have been popular ever since.

Appearance

Sturdy hunting dog, small to medium size, square body, looks like a smaller Foxhound with a shorter muzzle

Color and Coat

A hard medium length coat. Colors can vary greatly and the classic colors are white, black and brown. Other colors can include red, orange, lemon, liver, etc.
