Over the years, I have always been lucky enough to have dogs in my life! Dogs are an amazing gift and I believe they make us better as people. We learn patience (among many other things) and in return we get a companion that is by our side at all times. I wanted to give a shout out to some of the dogs who really made my life more pleasant.
Currently, we have two fur-babies that sleep in our bed and run our house and life. Sophie is our Weimaraner that we got from Amy at FoxFire Weimaraners back in 2006. Sophie's dad won Best in Breed at Westminster. She is beautiful and gets tons of compliments, but she is not well trained. Sophie can be very demanding and lives life by her own tune. I have heard that young female Weimaraners can be one of the most hyper breeds (I did not hear this before we got her, haha), and she thinks every house guest is visiting just to see her. She has moved with us from our first place to our first house, cross country twice and she is comfortable everywhere she goes. Sophie is my pride and joy and I could not imagine my life without her.
My other child is a boy German Shorthaired Pointer named Colby. Colby does a blog for DefineDog where he loves to talk about his big sister. We got Colby in 2007 from Lucretia at Kan-Point German Shorthaired Pointers. His aunt was Carlee who won Best in Show at Westminster in 2005. Colby also has a mind of his own and he is so smart, he tends to fool us. He has selective hearing and does not listen. He is the most loving dog, very loyal, he follows me everywhere, and I cuddle with him every night.
For my 9th birthday, my dad brought me a 6 month old Miniature Schnauzer named Mistletoe. When I went off to college, she became my moms dog, and they were best friends. Misty was a very good dog, but she was very particular about being picked up and did not get along with any other dogs. She lived to be 16 years old.
My in-laws have a Black Lab that they got in 2002. They love and spoil her so much I consider her the third child! Lucie loves to play with her frisbees and ride in the truck. She can be seen wandering around with up to 5 frisbees in her mouth at one time!
When I was young, one of my best friends dog had puppies. They were total mutts, and so cute that I had to have one. I took her to my dads house and we named her Sandy. She lived at my dads property her whole life and was the best and most loyal companion dog my dad has ever had! We think Sandy was a mix between a Golden Retriever and a Westie (West Highland White Terrier). An interesting mix you might say, she had very short legs, long body and long sandy-yellow hair. This is a photo of Sandy watching over some Great Dane puppies.
Currently, my dad has four Border Collies out at his property. He has bred a few breeds before (Border Collies and Great Danes), but is not doing that at this time. We like to refer to the four troublemakers as "the pack". They love to play with balls and run around and watch the horses.
